Hi Jeanne -- Thanks for your comment. Personally, I can appreciate your point of view as I have a fifteen year old son with significant oral, verbal and global apraxia as well. Although he enjoys engaging in conversation, his apraxia issues are still unresolved. We chose to use the Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) terminology to help those newly diagnosed or seeking diagnosis. That is the diagnostic term presented in the 2007 American Speech Language Hearing Association's (ASHA's) Technical Report presented by the Ad Hoc Committee on Apraxia of Speech in Children. It is a term now universally used and we wanted to present it to parents to learn about, understand and recognize when they ask questions of their own diagnosing or treating speech language pathologist. We really appreciate your insight as a parent of a teen with apraxia. We hope you found our website helpful and a resource you are confident in passing along for additional information and community connections. Take care, Holly

Hello, this sounds like an excellent resource. Northwestern University's Speech, Language, and Learning Clinic will share your information with appropriate clients.

If you have an e-newsletter, please add me to your list.

Also, we have faculty/clinicians available to talk with support groups if that would assist your members. Please let me know if you would like our brochures and if we can engage in any other way!

Hi,
As a parent of a teenager with Apraxia. I just wanted to comment on something. I have been running a nonprofit organzation called Apraxia Network for 12 years here in NJ. The reason I don't use the term CAS is it isn't appropriate and infers that a child diagnosed with it will be fixed once they reach a certain childhood age.
